“… the open-air is cancelled for this Saturday (10/08/24).  The 17th August is cancelled too …”

We were glad to tell of the recommencement of our open-air witness in Ashton-under-Lyne and to take our place at our old preaching spot in front of the NatWest Bank – Warrington St, Ashton-under-Lyne OL6 6JL.

That was 4 weeks ago now and we have been able to carry out our plan to visit the local towns each Saturday since then.  Following that 1st open-air we went to Dukinfield then to Hyde and last Saturday to Stalybridge.  You can read a brief report of each visit by going back through the events calendar.

This Saturday, the 10th, we planned to be in Ashton again but sadly, the labourers being few, sickness has dogged our plan [i.e. the Lord knows when we need some rest] so we are out of action and the open-air is cancelled for this Saturday (10/08/24).  The 17th August is cancelled too due to other commitments that day and so it looks like the next time we will be out preaching and witnessing will be the 24th August – God willing in Ashton again.

Stalybridge – the spot chosen in Armentieres Square was good as was the weather and many people passed by or sat on the benches facing either us or the canal.  Lots of people used the two adjacent bus stops too and we believe the Lord will use the occasion for his altogether glorious ends.

Bibles and Gospels were on display but none were given out; however a few tracts with bible verses were handed out at a short break in the proceedings which included, as usual, Psalm singing, preaching and gospel witness.  One lady [D] who approached us and who we spoke to for a time placed a little bag on our table; this was taken to be toffees but turned out to be a bag of coins.

Again the day was very encouraging and we intend to visit again as planned and locations, times etc., will be posted before each open-air subject to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

We believe – The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
